Double post from students today! Enjoy!
Hello all, friends and family—this is Justin and Jasper! This Monday marks our final week of service at the local elementary school. We started our day off with a wonderful breakfast before making our way to the school where we began painting the first coat of paint on walls of the school. Due to weather conditions we were then forced inside after the coat of paint had been finished. After a filling lunch, we headed back to our host family to see their very own farm. It was there that we got an in-depth idea about where the food on our plates comes from and the hard work required to plant and harvest. After being shown the farm we headed back to our home to get time to work on our individual projects that we will be presenting with the group on Friday, our last day in Turuco. With our last week of service here we are working harder than ever to finish our projects at La Guardaria!
Hi! It’s Jake and Alexa. Tuesday’s work was not too different from Monday’s work: A day of painting first and second coats with some drizzling and rain. After lunch, half of us went back to our host family’s home to work on their independent projects while the other half managed to get a lot of the painting done as the weather cleared up. Some of the independent projects consisted of making the traditional toasted corn, ahi (spicy) sauce, and milking cows. There were other independent projects like creating a large game of Ultimate Frisbee and soccer with the locals. The elementary school/community is looking as beautiful as ever and work is still in progress. We can’t wait to see and show you what the end result looks like!

Even with the rain our view is incredible.

An incredible sunset from our host house.

Getting as much work done as possible in the rain.
