Painting, Children, and Avocados—Oh My!

The following post features student writing.

The work begins!

Commemoration of indigenous musicians.

Painting the roof.

Hi! This is Flo & Jonathan. We started our day with an early morning wake-up (much earlier than we are used to). As usual, our delicious breakfast (homemade granola and fresh blackberry juice) helped prepare us for the long day ahead. We took a quick ride to the service site, and were greeted with the open and welcoming arms of adorable Ecuadorian children. We began our first day of service by painting the soon-to-be roof of the bathroom. Working was made easy and more rewarding by the help from the eager children. Soon after we started painting, we started chipping away and sanding at the old paint on the walls, preparing them for a fresh coat of cement and paint. Around 1 p.m., we headed over to the house of a fellow worker. Once we arrived, we indulged, again, in the home-cooked deliciousness we have been receiving thus far. Once back on the service site, we worked for another hour or so and then ventured onward for our next experience; an unveiling of plaques of indigenous musicians. Worn out, but feeling happy, we went back to our home and had time to just relax. We ate a nutritious yet delicious quinoa dinner, and sat down for our family meeting for the day. Overall, rewarding and fantastic!
